The first thing to do is start a movie blog. You will find that you have opportunities available to you which can earn you money. If you are writing about movies for fun, then this is okay too; but if you want to make money from it, then there are a few things to consider when choosing your niche. We will look at the most important ones below and we’ll also discuss how to make a full-time income from a movie blog.
Why start a movie blog
The most important thing is to first figure out why you want to start a movie blog. It sounds like an obvious question, but it’s really important to think about this before doing anything else. Do you just want somewhere to write film reviews for your favorite movies? Are you looking for a way to make money from your writing? Do you want to help other people learn about movies and filmmaking? The answer might be all of the above, which is great! But whatever your reason for wanting to start a movie blog, make sure it’s something that will inspire and motivate you over the long term. If the only reason you want to start a movie blog is because it seems like an easy way to make money, then I would advise against it. Blogging takes a lot of work and if you don’t have passion for the subject matter, then it will only lead to frustration and failure down the road.
Create a Movie Blog
Before you can make a full-time income from writing or blogging, you need to pick a niche and stick to it. There are thousands of blog topics out there, but only a few that you can profitably write about on an ongoing basis. Pick one that doesn't have too much competition (there are a lot of “best ways to decorate your bathroom” blogs), that doesn't have any particular expertise required (all the experts in your niche would be competitors), and is big enough for advertisers to be interested in spending money on it.
Choose a domain name and hosting plan before starting your blog. Pick something memorable like "your-name-blog" or "your-movie-blog". Avoid using words that could be confused with product names, because then people might go looking for those instead! WordPress will ask if you'd like to use the same theme as on your old site (if the old site was just a personal blog, then skip this step). If you already know what kind of look and feel you want for your new site, then go ahead and skip this step (but note: I do not suggest skipping this step because it's important).
Install WordPress. The first time around is not as hard as it sounds! Once you've installed WordPress and connected it with your Facebook account, there's no more installing manual updates from scratch. You don't even need FTP access anymore—you can install WordPress themes from within the dashboard itself! Just go into Settings → Reading & Writing → Update options by clicking the small left arrow next to "Update Now", read up on all the available themes, choose which one looks best, click Install Now!, and viola! That's all there is to installing WordPress themes after the first installation. Happy blogging!
Write movie reviews
The goal of a movie review is to give readers your opinion about a movie, in the hopes that after reading it, they will also want to see that movie. A good way to start is by writing a summary of the movie. You can find this information on the internet or in newspapers. Remember to keep your summary short and sweet: you don't want to ruin the entire plot!
Once you have written your summary, write what you thought about the movie. Think about things like cinematography, acting and directing. You could also talk about your favourite scene or character (but not too much-remember no spoilers!). Try using examples from the movie to back up your opinions - this will make it easier for others to understand where you are coming from when you say something was great or terrible!
Make money from online advertising on your blog
This is the most widely used method of earning money from a blog. You place ads on your website and get paid for every click an ad receives. The amount you make from each click can range anywhere from $0.01 to $0.20, depending on the popularity of the keywords being searched and how much publishers are willing to pay for those keywords. Another thing that affects earnings is which type of ad network you have on your site (more about them later).
A very important aspect that you need to consider when adding ads is how they will affect your website design and user experience. The right placement of ads can go a long way in helping you monetize your blog without compromising its design or user experience (see my post on building a responsive website).
Create a film review YouTube channel
As you may have gathered, creating a film review blog is a very serious undertaking. Expect to spend hours and hours creating amazing movie content that will blow your viewers away—that's (of course) assuming your videos can compete with the thousands of other channels on YouTube. In this section, we'll discuss how to maximize the potential of your channel. We'll also walk through the process of adding subscribers to your blog and introduce you to some key optimizations for video blogging.
Write an e-book about how to make money blogging about movies
You may have heard about the benefits of ebooks, but if not, here’s the short version:
They’re great for passive revenue.
They’re also an excellent way to build your email list.
The tricky part is that it takes time (and lots of dedication) to write a book. If you can manage this though, an ebook is a fantastic way to make money from your blog, and especially so if you write one all about monetizing your blog. This means you can use your blog as a platform to advertise and promote your book, making it much easier to sell than if you were trying to sell it on its own. An ebook really helps you stand out among all the movie blogs out there!
Just like any post or article on your blog, an effective ebook should be conversational and easy for a reader to follow along with. I would recommend keeping each chapter roughly 1-2 pages long so people don’t get overwhelmed by huge blocks of text. Try adding some bullet points and subheadings throughout too so that readers can easily find what they need in their quest for advice on how to make money from their own movie blogs!
Get a job as a movie blogger for an established site or publication
Having a full time job as a movie blogger is the dream of many. But in today's economy, it can be difficult to find an employment opportunity that allows you to commit your life.
Fortunately, there are several ways to get your foot in the door and find a position that will put food on the table as well as provide you with a full time income. You have lots of options, from finding work with established publications to jumping into the nonprofit movie blogging world.
Writing and creating content that is of value is how to make a full time income from a movie blog
Writing and creating content that is of value to the reader of your blog is important for making a full time income from your movie blog.
If you only write about the newest released movies, then you could run out of ideas for posts after a few weeks or months. Plus if people have not seen the movie yet, they may not want to read any spoilers so it can be worthwhile to write about older movies.
For example: you could explain what you liked and disliked about particular movies, or explain why someone should see them or not see it depending on their preferences. You could also mention some interesting facts that might pique the reader's interest.
You could also review older movies (such as classic black & white films) that could generate more interest than just reviewing new releases.
At the end of the day, if you want to make money writing movie reviews, focus on providing quality content that people will value. Remember that your main goal should be to provide readers with a valuable experience. If you can do this successfully, then you will have no trouble building a strong audience and earning a good living from your blog.
